Appliance Recycling

Appliances are known in the waste and recycling industry as white goods. The term “whitegoods” was actually started by Sears and Roebuck in their early catalogs and referred to household appliances that had a white porcelain enamel exterior. Appliances include but are not limited to refrigerators, ranges, ovens, water heaters, freezers, air conditioner units, washing machines, clothes dryers, stoves, microwaves, dishwashers, etc. Thankfully, appliances have been banned from being discarded in North Carolina landfills. Appliances are not difficult to recycle but they do require energy and resources to aid in their recycling. Special measures also have to be taken in order to assure that refrigerants and other items that may pose environmental dangers are handled accordingly. Junk Rescue can pick up and recycle one refrigerator from your house or hundreds of refrigerators from your warehouse and anything in between. When it comes to rescuing junk, we'll be there with a smile!

Electronics are pretty much anything that has a plug or runs on batteries which includes but is not limited to, computers, laptops, copiers, cameras, computer monitors, flat screens, microwaves, stereos, phones, cell phones, radios, tv, big box televisions, LCD screens, plasma screens, keyboards, speakers, dvd players, servers, CRT monitors, fax machines, scanners, power supplies, etc. When we decide it is time to upgrade our outdated gadgets to the latest and greatest gadgets, our old gadget then becomes electronic waste.

Electronic waste, also referred to as E-waste or E-scrap is the fastest growing waste stream in the world. It is also one of the most complex and often times misunderstood waste streams. Electronics are not just made of one material but many different materials, some of which include precious metals like gold, silver, and platinum. In general, almost 100% of an electronic device is recyclable, even the plastic case or mold.

Even still, many electronics end up in area landfills. As of July 1, 2011, it is illegal to dump any electronic device into a landfill in North Carolina. Junk Rescue wants to make electronic recycling easy for you. We can take all of your electronics and make sure that they reach the best destination for recycling. That's why we work closely with electronic vendors who deliver responsible and environmentally sound methods of electronic disposal. Electronics that we collect are inventoried, sorted, and dismantled in the United States by certified companies who are regulated and even audited by independent third parties.

Effective January 1, 2008, North Carolina Alcohol Beverage Control Commision passed General Statute 18B-902 which requires applicants of on-premises alcohol beverage sales to submit a plan for the collection and recycling of all recyclable beverage containers for all beverages sold for consumption on the licensed premises. This was the start of what is now know as "ABC recycling" in North Carolina.

Junk Rescue encourages all bars and restaurants to recycle, not because it is required by law, but because it is the right thing to do. Every alchohol container made is reusable or recyclable whether it is made of glass, plastic, or aluminum. Junk Rescue can provide daily, weekly, or monthly recycling collection services of these containers. Allow Junk Rescue to take your establishment to the next level of recycling. Weekly services start at $100 per month.

Pallets are great for shipping large, heavy objects all over the world but what do you do with them once you've unloaded your delivery. If you are not able to ship something else back out, that pallet becomes waste.

Effective October 1, 2009, NC House Bill 1465 banned the disposal of wooden pallets in municipal solid waste landfills. Why is that? Because pallets are 100% reusable or recyclable. Allow Junk Rescue to collect and recycle your broken or unwanted pallets.

wood recycling services
Wood Recycling Services

Junk Rescue currently collects and recycles clean, untreated and unpainted wood. This can include pallets, construction lumber, certain types of plywood, and basically any wood that has not been altered to preserve it, stain it, or paint it. So where does it go you ask? Well, certain woods are reused. This includes hand hewn beams, old barn wood, or antique wood flooring, dimensional lumber that may have been unused on a construction site, or pallets that are no longer needed. The rest of the clean wood that is not reusable is chipped into mulch where it is then used as burner fuel for power production or industrial heating. Unfortunately, we are no longer able to recycle MDF because of a new EPA regulation that prevents certain glues from being used in burner fuels applications. We are also unable to recycle treated or painted woods but we strive to find avenues for reuse before disposal.
